There may be times you end up with duplicate sources or citations, especially after importing information from another source.  RootsMagic provides several ways to help you combine (merge) these duplicate sources and citations.

Merging Sources

When viewing the master source list, the options button (3 dots) will offer 3 different merge options:

1.Merge all duplicate sources - this will automatically merge all sources which are exactly the same

2.Merge all duplicate citations - this will automatically merge all citations which are exactly the same

3.Merge sources - this will let you select 2 sources (which might not be exactly the same) to merge.  Highlight one of the sources to merge and then select this option.  RootsMagic will display a list of sources where you can select the other source to merge.

Once you select the second source, RootsMagic will display them side by side before you make your decision.

If you choose to "Merge duplicates", RootsMagic will keep the "Primary" source (on the left) and merge all citations for the duplicate into the primary source.

Merging Citations

When viewing the master citation list, the options button (3 dots) will offer an option to merge citations.  This works almost exactly the same as the manual source merge, except it works at the citation level.
