Large-format charts arrange a tree on a page that can exceed ordinary printer paper. Use them for wall charts or a PDF to send to a print shop. Open Publish > All reports and charts and select Charts (large format) in the report filter.

Choose a chart

Ancestor chart uses connected boxes for the starting person and direct ancestors. Descendant chart follows children and later generations. Hourglass chart combines ancestors and descendants in a box layout.

Bow-Tie chart divides one person's ancestry into the father's branch on the left and the mother's on the right.

Fan chart (Ancestor) uses curved generation bands for ancestors. Fan chart (Descendant) uses them for descendants. Fan chart (Hourglass) combines both directions.

Generate and refine

1. Choose the starting person and a modest number of generations. For an hourglass chart, set ancestor and descendant counts separately.

2. Generate the report and check the family relationships before adjusting appearance.

3. Adjust box or generation widths, spacing, orientation, and fonts. For descendant fans, compare Size Wedges by Descendants when branches have very different numbers of children.

4. Use Chart Colors, Box borders, and Picture settings where the selected chart supports them.

5. Regenerate and inspect long names and the outer generations at a readable zoom.

Print at a useful size

Fit to Chart sizes the chart page to its contents. The print dialog's Fit on Page scales that chart to the printer's paper. A large chart can become unreadable when reduced to one small sheet.

Use Print Settings for Multiple Pages to assemble a poster, or save a PDF at the intended size for a print service. Check the saved file's page dimensions and text before ordering a large print.
