Database Tools are simply a few commands which can help you check and clean up the database. To access the database tools, select the File page, then Tools, or select them from the Tools Page.
•Test integrity - This command will tell you if the basic structure of the data file is ok.
•Rebuild indexes - This command will rebuild the internal indexes that RootsMagic uses when accessing data.
•Clean phantom records - This command will clean up phantom records of various types, such as blank children in a family, families with no people in them, etc.
•Compact - This command will remove deleted and unused records from the database. This can make the data file a little smaller.
Run maintenance deliberately
Make a backup before maintenance, and check the filename and folder under Current File so that you work on the intended tree. Run the needed tool and read its result before moving on to another operation.
Test integrity checks database structure. It does not establish whether names, relationships, or dates are genealogically correct. Use Problem Search for possible inconsistencies in recorded family data.
After a repair, check some of the people or information that had problems. If Test integrity reported an error, run it again. If it still reports a problem, keep your backup and send the exact message to Product Support.
