Select Home in the navigation bar for an overview of your tree, RootsMagic news, updates, and help resources. What appears on the left depends on whether a file is open.
With a tree open
The Current Tree card identifies the open file by its filename and location, and shows when it was modified. Check the location as well as the name if you keep several copies of a tree. A working copy and an older copy may have the same filename in different folders.
The card shows counts for People, Places, Sources, Media, and Tasks, with arrows beside the rows. Continue with displays a person's name and provides a way back to where you left off.
For more detailed counts, click File Properties. RootsMagic opens the File properties on the Tools page, where you can examine counts such as families, alternate names, fact types, and events. This is a list of database statistics, not the place to edit an individual's facts.

The On this day panel lists events from your tree for the displayed month and day. Check the date at the top of the panel when reading the list.
Opening or starting a tree
When no file is open, Home offers ways to start a new file or open an existing file, along with recently opened files. For the full set of file commands, select the File page.
Choose Create a New File to start a tree, Open an Existing File to resume a saved tree, or import when bringing information from another genealogy program. Opening an existing tree is different from importing information into one.

News, updates, and help
The News panel lists articles and indicates unread items with a star. The Updates panel reports update availability. Read the update information before proceeding with an installation.
Help and Support provides links such as Online Help, Webinars (Online Classes), RootsMagic TV, and the Online Community. These resources are useful when you want a demonstration or help beyond the current topic.
