The RootsMagic 12 disk image contains native code for both Intel (x64) and Apple Silicon (M-series) Macs and selects the appropriate one during installation—no Rosetta needed. The Place Database is automatically included in the download and will be installed at the same time. The Mac version includes the same functionality and import capabilities as the Windows versions.
1.Download the RootsMagic Mac disk image from the RootsMagic website and wait for the download to finish.
2.Open the downloaded .dmg file, usually in your Downloads folder.
3.In the disk-image window, drag the RootsMagic application to the Applications folder shown in that window. Wait for copying to finish.
4.Open Finder, select Applications, and open RootsMagic from there, or click on the RootsMagic icon on your Dock.
5.Enter your registration key to unlock the full version, or continue with RootsMagic Essentials. Open an existing tree, create a new one, or import your data.

If the disk image or application will not open
If the disk image is not recognized, download a fresh copy from the RootsMagic website. If the problem persists, contact RootsMagic support with the exact message and your macOS version.
A first-launch message about an app downloaded from the Internet is different from a warning about damaged software or an unverified developer. Do not disable Mac security protections or enable apps from Anywhere. Check the download's origin and consult Apple's guidance on safely opening apps or RootsMagic support if macOS blocks the application.
Adding RootsMagic to the Dock
In Finder's Applications folder, drag the RootsMagic application icon to the Dock. Click the Dock icon once to open RootsMagic.
