When you save a report to disk, RootsMagic will prompt you for the format to save it in. (Note: Some formats are not available with every report type.)

You may choose from:

•Acrobat PDF – Save to a PDF file that can be viewed and printed by others.

•Word File (DOCX or RTF) – Save to a file that can be opened and edited by a word processor.

•Excel File (XLSX) – Save to a file that can be opened and edited by a spreadsheet.

•Comma Separated (CSV) - Save as a comma separated file that can be imported into a spreadsheet.

•Text File (TXT) – Save as a plain text file that can be edited in a simple editor or spreadsheet.

•Web Page (HTML) – Save a file that can be viewed in a web browser.

•Markdown (MD) – Save as a markdown text file for wikis and note-taking apps.

•EPUB eBook (EPUB) – Save as an electronic book that can be read on e-readers, tablets, and phones.

•SVG Graphic (SVG) – Save as a scalable vector graphic file for the internet. (large format charts)

Once you click the desired format, RootsMagic will display the File Save form for you to enter a file name and select the folder you want to save the file in. By checking "View this file after it is saved", RootsMagic will automatically open the file with its associated program after saving is complete.

Choose the format for the recipient

Use PDF when the recipient needs the page layout as generated. Use DOCX or RTF for further editing in a word processor, and XLSX or CSV for report data that will be sorted or analyzed in a spreadsheet. Plain text does not retain the report's visual styling.

Open the saved file and inspect several pages or rows, including long names, sources, pictures, and special characters. Available formats vary by report. If the format you need is absent, choose a suitable supported format rather than changing the filename extension.

An exported report is a snapshot. Editing it does not change your RootsMagic database, and later database changes require generating and saving another report. Use Copy to Clipboard for a quick transfer when you do not need a saved file.
