Sometimes you may have a place which includes details like a cemetery, hospital, etc. This allows you to split the current place into separate place and place details for all facts which use that place. If an event that uses the place already has a place detail, RootsMagic will retain the original place detail for that particular event.
To split the current place highlighted select Tools > Split place from the menu. On the Split Place screen move the place detail information from the Place field to the Place Detail field. Click OK.

Example and verification
If a place reads Oak Cemetery, Springville, Utah, United States, put Oak Cemetery in Place Detail and keep Springville, Utah, United States as Place. Review the proposed split before confirming because it applies to facts using that place.
Afterward, check several affected events. An event that already had a place detail keeps that original detail, so it may need individual review. Use Place details list to inspect the details now associated with the locality.
