The Edit Person window is a multi-pane dialog that provides access to the person's names, the names of the spouses and parents, Groups and WebTags (at the top left), and the facts associated with the person (at the lower left), and a "live edit pane" at the right. As you select a person, family, or fact row, the edit panel changes to show the fields for that item. As shown in the examples below, when the person is selected, the pane has one layout, and when the military fact is selected, another layout is presented.

Each item at the left (person, spouse, parents, groups, WebTags, or fact) has a corresponding pane layout at the right. The figure above shows the Person pane. The other "people" panes are a Spouse pane and a Parents pane. The fields at the top of these panes are specific to the type of pane. In the lower portion, these panes have the same general details buttons – Notes, Sources, Media, Task, Addresses – related to the person, spouse or parents shown at the left.
The lower portion at the left displays the facts associated with the life of the person. For each fact, there is a corresponding Fact pane.

Above is a typical live-edit pane for a fact – Military in this case. The top of the right panel shows its fact type and the fields and values that apply to it. Click the value beside a field label to edit text. A dropdown, such as Sex or Proof, lets you choose a value. Switches represent on/off values, while buttons such as Sources open related information.
Date, Place, Place details, and Description depend on the fact type. Place details is for a more specific location such as a facility or address. The panel also provides Proof, Primary, Private, and Sort date controls. Sort date determines where the fact sorts when the order needs to differ from its displayed date. See Editing a fact for details.
Editing and accepting changes
When you change a text field, a dot appears beside the changed field and two buttons appear in the panel heading. Click the checkmark to accept the pending changes. Click the circle-with-slash button to discard pending changes and restore the values from before that edit.

A section below the fact fields (called Fact Items) includes five buttons – Note, Sources, Media, Tasks and Share – that relate to the fact highlighted at the left. Clicking on one of these buttons will let you add a fact note, add sources of the fact information, add a media item or task to the fact, or share the fact with other people.
At the bottom of the panel, RootsMagic previews the sentence it will write for this fact in a report. Click Customize above the preview to change this one sentence. This does not change the usual wording for other people's facts.
