Click Used to see where something appears in your tree. For example, a place's Used list shows the events that happened there, and a citation's Used list shows the people and facts it documents. For pictures and other media, the list is called Tags.

A search box is provided which lets you filter the list by type or name.  Any names in the list will include any color coding currently applied to the person.

In addition to displaying the list of places the record is used, RootsMagic also provides commands to work with the used list.  There are 4 possible buttons, but some may not be available in certain situations.  For example, if you were looking at the used list for a citation:

•Add Link (plus) — add this citation to another person, family, or fact without leaving the Used list. This button is available only in lists that let you add connections.

•Unlink (minus) — remove this citation from the selected person or fact.

•Edit (pencil) — open the selected person, event, or other item so you can change its information.

•Edit Link (link) — change which person or fact uses this citation. Use it to correct a citation that was added to the wrong person or fact.

Why citation counts and Used counts differ

One citation can support several facts. For example, you might save one citation for a census household and add it to five people. It is one citation with five uses.

Unlink removes the citation, picture, or task from the selected person or fact; it does not delete the citation, picture, or task itself. Use Edit Link if you added it to the wrong person or fact and want to choose the right one. Use Edit to change the person's or fact's information.

If the expected use is missing, clear the list filter before adding another link.
