To add a relative who is already in the database, use the existing-person choice in Adding people. Entering the same person again creates a second record rather than another relationship to the first.

If someone is attached to the wrong family, unlink the incorrect relationship and attach the existing person to the correct family. If two records describe the same individual, review merging duplicates. Use Delete only when the person's record itself should be removed.

For more than one spouse or parent set, select the intended family before adding a child or family fact. Life Summary and Family view help you check the family currently displayed.
