On occasion a person is added into a family tree, but later is discovered to not be the person they were believed to be. To remove the person from the database, there are multiple options available.

 

To delete a person from your database, highlight a person on the People page, and do one of the following:

Click Edit > Delete > Delete person from the menu

Press the Delete key on the keyboard

Right click on a person and select "Delete > Delete Person" from the pop-up menu that appears.

Find the person on the People page, Life Summary side panel, click the drop menu to the right of their name and select "Delete person"

 

You will be asked if you want to delete the person. If you select "Delete person", RootsMagic will unlink the person from any family members and then remove the person from the database.

 

To delete a family from your database:

1.With the one of the individuals in the family highlighted on the People page, do one of the following:

oClick Edit > Delete > Delete family from the menu

oPress Ctrl+Delete on the keyboard

oSelect "Delete > Delete Family" from the pop-up menu that appears when you right click the mouse.

2.A dialog showing the family members will appear, and will ask you to confirm that you really want to delete the family. This will unlink the family members from other people in the database, and will delete the family members from the database as well. If you only want to unlink the family members from each other but leave the people in the file, use the Unlink Family members command instead.

3.Select the option you want, and then click the "Delete" button to delete or unlink the family members, or click "No" to cancel.
